Michigan blood tracking dogs

Madison shot this beautiful 8 point with a crossbow and the bolt was tipped with a 3 blade "Rage". She made an amazing 40 yard shot. The bolt hit exactly where she was aiming. She ended up hitting 1 lung and sliced the very bottom of the Liver. Bill and his good friend blood trailed the buck until 11pm that night. At times the blood trail looked very promising. They eventually hit a void in the blood trail and soon realized they need some help. I tracked for Bill last year so he already new how the whole tracking dog operation works. He decided not grid search and call in the hounds. I showed up 16 hours after the shot. We started at the shot site and off we went following Sypris. Sypris followed the blood trail with ease. We covered the distance the Bill previously tracked with in a few Minutes. We quickly got to last blood and at this point Bill and Madison stayed out until they could hear me call out blood. Well I went some distance until I visual could find any blood. I found some blood to confirm Sypris work however we were to far away for Bill to hear me. I never stop my hounds once they are locked on so we continued to track on with out Bill and Madison. A few hundred yards farther we found her first buck. I started screaming we found it, we found it. Bill was more than 300 yards away and could not hear me so I ran all the way back to inform them of the great news. This buck would have never been found with out the help of a tracking dog. The buck traveled .63 of a mile.

Michigan blood tracking dogs

Nick was hunting with his bonus Dad Brent Jansson of Byron/Bancroft area. They were hunting in a pop up blind on the edge of a cornfield. Nick says to his dad there is a buck coming(nick says it in a calm cool collective voice) Brent says that's a shooter so Nick raises his 20 gauge Ultra Slugger and drops the hammer on this 140 inch 11 pointer. The impact looked good and the buck reaction appeared this buck is on death run. So they waited patently in the blind until nightfall. Brent could not locate any considerable amount of blood so he started to second guess the shot placement on this Hoss Buck. Nick says I know where I hit him. I hit I'm perfect. So Brent tracked the buck to the edge of the woods and was only finding a few drops of blood. So at this point he decided to call a friend for some advice. He called Jason Ladd a well know hunter and great tracker and Jason advice was to simply call in a tracking dog. Jason witness the work of Rob tracking dogs last year when we found Don Henerys Buck. Jason tells Brent it maybe dead just inside the woods however it's not worth the risk of loosing it. I like to call it tracking insurance. Sypris picked up the hoof scent of this giant 4-5 year old buck and took us straight to him. The buck did not travel that far maybe 200-350 yards however the blood trail did not look promising. Nick ended up hitting the 1 lung, liver, guts. The scent trail was about 13 hours old. Great job Nick and you have one amazing Bonus father.

Michigan deer tracking dogs

Michaela Willett was hunting during the 2012 Michigan youth hunt with her farther Scott in the Byron/Bancroft area. They watched this Giant 11 point make its way across a soybean field. Michaela waited patiently until the buck gave her a slightly quartering to shot. She shot him with a 20 gauge Benelli shotgun. The buck took a few bounds and turn to look back at where the shot came from. He stood their for a very long time says Michaela. I took another shot at him however I think I missed him. They waited until night time to start tracking. Scott soon realized this is not going to be a very easy blood trail to follow. They Literally only found a couple drops of blood. At that point they decided to back out and wait until morning. Next morning Scott spent a few hours searching for blood and with no luck he decided to call in Rob Miller and his Trackn hounds to help recovery his daughters first Deer. Scott realized the importance of not grid searching and contaminating the area making it at times to difficult for a tracking dog to do there job. Scout started searching in the field and located the impact site. We found a small patch of white hair indicating a low hit or possible only grazing this trophy buck. Scout continued across the bean field into the swamp and at that point we started to find more blood. We located 3 wound beds and a short distance later we found the buck in chest high swamp grass. The track was not a very difficult one as far as challenging the dog however it was very difficult to man trail this trophy. The trail was about 14 hours old and the buck traveled around 200 yards. The buck was hit in one lung, liver, guts. Congrats Michaela Willett on your first deer and a buck of a lifetime. Also she is my first recovery for a young women.
