Oakland County Buck

This Oakland County Monster was taken October 19, 2012. I was worried at first on whether or not we would make this recovery,  The hunter was still out looking with a friend , I met a family member of his and he led me to the start of the track,  It was raining very steadily.  He showed me first blood pointed me in the direction and off Cash went,  there was a very heavy blood trail and it was very easy for Cash,  the whole time the gentleman kept saying to me "I have never seen anything like this" as Cash zipped down the trail turn for turn,  within 5 to 7 minutes we had traveled 300 to 400 yards and saw flashlights from the hunter and his friend ahead,  I shouted out "dog coming, don't pet him".  They quickly stepped aside from where they were looking for more blood, and Cash paid absolutely no attention to them and kept on working.  right by them made a turn than blood, blood , blood,  off we went heading in the right direction,  There were several paper plate size blood spots through the track, and steady quarter sized drops. We worked several hundred more yards very easily until we got into some tall grasses than the blood got sparse and disappeared as we hit the open field.  Cash went several hundred yards and I just couldn't help but doubt him being that we had such a good blood trail for more than 800 yards.  So I stopped him and took him back to the last blood,  we sat him down, at this point the hunters family member and friend decided they did not want to follow anymore.  The hunter and I continued the search.  I restarted Cash and off he went again, down the same exact line, at this point I knew I had to trust him,  we worked right by where I had stopped him and in to another field,  all the way across that field still not seeing any blood.  I got to the other side of  this field and began to fill with doubt again.  as we reached the field edge, I stopped Cash again, and instucted the hunter to look for any signs of blood on the grass and leaves ahead in the woods.  400 yards with no blood sign at all.  He and I began to look and at the same time we both said "I got BLOOD here"  what a relief to know that my dog was dead on track!!!  of we went again Over the fields and through the woods to Monster BUCK we go.  It was steady blood the whole rest of the way to this buck.  as we came up the hill i saw a set of eyes, but they did not look like deer eyes so I ignored it and kept tracking,  shortly after we reached a spot where it looked like his deer had stumbled, and we started down a hill, i looked up and saw the eyes again just ahead about 40 yards away in the brush.  I stopped immediately and turned cash around so he would not see the deer,  I spotted the deer with my light and saw he still had his head up,  but was certainly not getting up.  I than decided it would be best to back out and retrieve the hunters bow.  But as luck would have it, by the time we returned this Oakland County Buck had expired.  It was green scored at 164.  Pouring Rain and Soaking wet,  Total length of the track was 1.8 miles it was hit just behind the liver in the middle height of the deer and exited out the bottom.  This deer would have been very very difficult to recover without the use of a tracking dog.  The trail could have probably been followed a very long way however with the several hundred yard break in the blood, it would have been near impossible to search this large farm for the next spec to get going in the right direction.
Congratulations to the Hunter on his 2012 GIANT!!!

Deer tracking dogs

Dave Madrigal's Testimony

Here's the hunting story from 10/20/12... About 7:45am I made a series of grunts from my stand. About 8am I noticed a Nice Buck entering my area and looking for the buck grunts he heard. At 30yds the buck decided to head dead downwind of me and was going to give me a 35-40yd shot possibly (MY max distance)... Ay 38yds he stopped perfectly broadside and I released the Muzzy 4-blade tipped arrow right through the honeyhole... I watched my bright red Nocturnal nock zip through! He did a slight mule kick and wandered towards the swamp. As I waited 15mins to slip down to double check my arrow I got a text from my son "BBD"... He had arrowed a Nice on about the same time I did approximatly 3/4 of a mile away. When I got down to look at my blood filled arrow I was ultra confident that I had heart shot or lung shot the buck. I slipped out of the woods and met my son to gather our thoughts and prepare for the mid-day tracking etc... We headed home and got my rack for the truck and some other things needed for hauling deer. We found my sons buck around 11:30am (A nice 2.5yr old 10pt), we proceeded to take pictures etc and slightly celebrate. About 12:30 we went to the other side of the property to retrieve my Buck next. I showed my son my arrow and we both thought it was going to be a very short tracking job.... The first 80yds was like the deer painted a trail for us, but it was not solid going into the swamp... we slowly slipped into the swamp on the blood trail and about 120-150yds into the tracking we jumped the Buck (My heart sank). We waited for a few minutes and slowly started following the fresher blood trail to see where he was headed etc... Around 1:30 I called Rob and asked him if he might be able to come out and help me a bit later because the deer needed some more time to expire. After Rob and Sypris found a Buck in Lowell he headed back our way. At 4:15 we headed in the woods to start our journey.... Immediatly sypris was all over the original search that my son and I had done previously. She never skipped a beat and worked the exact path/blood trail that we did! Right at the point where we stopped tracking, sypris had no hesitation in finding the path of the Buck... we went approximatly 60 more yds and found a fresh bed with warm blood in it.... she continued on the track of the mortaly wounded deer.... After a 2.1 mile search we finally put down the 3.5yr old 8pt Buck, as Sypris stood paw to Hoof with the bruiser at Bay while I sent him to heaven. I would never immagine that it would happen that way after examining the deer. I made a excellent shot but only got 1 lung and exited a bit low. I am so thankful that Rob and Sypris helped me retrieve my deer because it certainly was not going to make it! Again, I'm absolutly amazed with the nose on this lil tracking machine and would reccomend the service to anyone if they need the help! I'm a fan for life Rob and Sypris....😃 Thanks again- Dave Madrigal>>---->

Blood tracking hounds

I would like to start out by telling you about last year. I shot an 8-point on October 15th 2011, the shot was farther back than I would have liked. but my arrow had lots of blood on it. My brother and I waited about 3 hours before picking up the trail. We had really good blood for about 150 yards but then it stopped. We continued in the direction we thought the deer traveled but never found any more blood. We then preformed a grid search for about 5 hours turning up no new blood and no dead deer. Fast-forward to October 20th 2012, a nice 8-point presented me with a shot quartering slightly to me. I placed my pin on his front shoulder and let it fly. When my arrow made contact I knew I was in trouble. The arrow it high and back very similar to the deer I shot last year. After waiting about 30 minutes, I got down to check my arrow for blood. The arrow was covered in blood. This seemed like a good sign but then again my arrow last year had lots of blood on it as well. I started the track and after 100 yards I began to have trouble finding blood. At this point I knew what I needed to do, call in the hounds!!! So I backed out and called Rob and Sypris. They arrived around 3pm, and Sypris got to work right away. She immediately picked up the trail and we were off. She led us straight to my deer about 0.5 miles away. I could not believe how quickly she found my deer. There was a stretch of about 40 yards with no blood and she had no problem staying on the trail. If we didn’t have Sypris it would have taken us much longer and we might not have found the deer. I would recommend Rob and Cyprus to anybody who thinks they have made a bad shot or if their blood trail dries up. I’m sure we would have found my deer last year if we had the help of a tracking dog.

Thanks again Sypris.
