Tracker Feature/Profile Rob Miller Scout Sypris

MDTH Professional and state certified tracker
Rob Miller (810) 240-4891
My Hounds are Scout & Sypris

About myself: I'm a family man and I married my high school girlfriend 15 years ago. We have four children, 2 girls and 2 boys.
I work for a welding wire manufacture and I do all their Die welding and some quality control product testing.
I have been around archery and archery hunting since the age of 5. I've shot traditional and compound bows. I've hunted with Bows, muzzle loaders, shotguns, handguns, and riffles.
I have wounded more deer than I would like to admit. Most of the deer I have wounded were shot in the shoulder with a bow (guessing they most likely lived) I can honestly tell you that I have shot only one deer that I know died and I failed to recover him. I searched everywhere for the deer and a tracking dog and there was not one available in my area. I made a high liver shot with no exit hole and the buck bleed internally. I trailed him for over 300 yards. He crossed a pure dirt field in to a drainage ditch or a extremely large woods. I walked the ditch and two buddies and I did our best to grid search the over grown woods. I'm guessing at some point we walked right by him and never seen him:(
I have Literally stopped hunting to focus on dog training and tracking wounded deer with dogs as a professional.
I charge for my services and to be honest I do charge fair amount for my services. I feel the effort I have gone to purchase one of the best tracking bloodlines in the United States and even in Europe. The year round care and the time I have spend with her working on obedience and cold scent training and the time I take off from work and the many hours away from my family and the several thousand miles I put on my vehicle in the end I typically break even.
I started tracking wounded whitetails with dogs back in 2007/2008.
My first tracking dog is a mini chocolate & tan dachshund and his name is Scout. Scout is basically retired. I will still use him when I need to give Sypris a break. He has recovered 36 deer.
My new hound is Sypris, she is 4 years old and weighs 21# and she is a European Dachshund. Last year she found 32 deer and a career total of 41deer.
Going in to my 6th year tracking and have gone on over 170+ tracks I have realized that you can not comprehend the whitetails strength and desire to survive. One advantage I have over most hunters is I have tracked so many mature Whitetails I can look at the lay of the land and sometimes predict the mature deer exit routes. So when the hound is struggling I can help assist my dog by applying past experience and maybe visual cut a track or find blood to get the dog refocused.
I truly feel my specialty is tracking mature whitetail bucks!!!!
I live in Genesee Co. and the areas I mainly track are Genesee, Livingston, shiawasee, Oakland, Lapeer, counties. In the past I have driven all over our state and this upcoming season I'm going to try and stay closer to home as much as possible.
I will travel as far as the southern Michigan boarder and to port huron to Grand Rapids to northern lower Peninsula. Please call and leave me a message and typically I can respond much faster with a text. When you call or text please give me as much info as you can this will help speed up the process so I can get to your location much sooner or get another tracker to help you. When you call I can assure ill be asking all kind of CSI type questions!!! I will always return you call and if I can not track for you I will find another MDTH tracker or use a tracker that I have in my Rolodex. I also know a lot of trackers in other states that I can help you when you go on out of state hunts.
So hopefully you know a little more about me and I hope you never need to use a tracking dog however we are hear to help you if your blood trail runs cold.
Three things I ask ever hunter to try and do.
1- Back out when in doubt.
2- Call a tracker as soon as you realize your in trouble.
3- Locate a tracker near you before your hunting season starts.
Best of luck to you and your family this upcoming season.

Bear Archery Whitetail Fix Hunting Show

There is a new hunting show on the Sportsman channel.
Bear Archery Whitetail Fix.
This is a collection of hunters that have families and they also hold down full time jobs while producing some of the most raw hunting footage you will ever see. These hunters get it done on small private properties to high pressure public land. They squeeze in hunts before and after work and during the extremely busy weekends. These hunters are not professionals the are your every day average hunters that are producing high quality footage that surly seems like they are professional.
Sundays 6pm on the sportsman channel.

MDTH tracker Feature Jeff Murphy

I am an avid hunter and have been for the last 32 years. However the amount of lost deer has always bothered me. I don't blame anyone, it's just part of hunting and anyone who hunts long enough will loose some animals. Though out my early years as a hunter I had a lot of opportunities to track deer by sight, both for myself and with friends. Some we found, many we did not. I worked hard to perfect my sight tracking skills, read everything that I could on the topic and bought every light, string tracker and spray on the market, but we still lost deer.

In about 1996 I started to hear about people tracking wounded deer with dogs. At this point it was not legal yet in Michigan. I started to look into the practicality of training a dog for myself and I eventually I did right around the time the law changed to allow for it (1998). Since that time I've trained 4 dogs and  am currently working with a 2 year old Lab. I still like to hunt but I enjoy helping other people find deer more. The clients are happy and the deer does not go to waste. For the last couple of years I've been tracking with Rob Miller and his tracking team at Michigan Deer Tracking Hounds, which has taken my tracking to a whole new level. All of the Michigan Deer Tracking Hounds trackers really care about tracking and spend countless hours training, so they can be the best of the best. We won't find every deer but we will make an honest effort and will find more than most trackers.

I love tracking but do have other commitments which include my wife, 5 children and a full time job. If you need help finding a lost deer, please realize that I will do everything that I can to make myself available but because of my other commitments, I'm often unavailable. Even if I can't come out to help I will always return your call, offer you suggestions to increase your chances of a recovery and refer you to other trackers if practical.
I live in east Lansing I'm willing to travel 1/2-1 hour radius of my home. Maybe further if I have the available time.

This week tracker Feature/Profile. Mike Riepen

Tracker Mike Riepen
248-200-9805
Oakland/Livingston/South east and South Central Lower/ Northeast Lower(on some weekends)

I have been a concrete finisher for 12 years, as well as a student of Economics, I will soon be Graduating from Oakland University.  I am also a father of two wonderful children.  As you can imagine life is extremely busy.  However, I always find the time to do the things I enjoy.  I  typically cover Oakland/Livingston counties and pretty much anything South of there.  I am also available to track in the Northeast Lower when I am at my Cabin in Mikado.  With my schedule during the week I am generally only available to track in the evenings.  I also track day or night on the weekends.  You can feel free to call and ask questions or check availability, leave a message or shoot me a text if I do not pick, I make every effort to return every call, and I take as many tracks as I possibly can, or I will get you in touch with one of our other trackers.

I have been a hunter for 20 years and I have had my share of success and disappointments.  Whitetail deer quickly became my passion and I have dedicated countless hours researching hunting techniques and studying Whitetails.  I am not an expert by any means, but I am certainly well educated in both hunting and tracking.  I believe what separates a good tracker from a great tracker (whether by eye, or with dog) is ones ability to notice and assess small details, ones tracking abilities are certainly increased through experience.  Having the opportunity to track as many whitetails as Michigan Deer Track'n Hounds trackers do each year gives us an extended advantage in our personal abilities, not to mention our true talent, our partners, our hounds!

I have 2 dogs, a Bloodhound, and a Catahoula mix.  "Cash" my bloodhound has been my partner for the last 3 years. 1 year of training and 2 years of professional tracking.  He has a phenomenal nose and I believe he enjoys tracking more than any other activity.  He is not an easy dog to handle due to his size, but he sure is exciting to watch work.   In the past 2 years we have recovered more than 20 deer and 1 Black Bear.   We have also had several deer that were not recovered but later seen alive and well.  "Dusty" my Catahoula, has an amazing nose and is a great tracker, however he does have some issues with fear and can get a bit "skittish"  while tracking around  people he does not know.  He has not been on any "Live" tracks, but I am certainly excited to try him out this year should the right opportunity present itself.  I have been working with Dusty for the past year and look forward to "seeing what he's got".

I certainly have had the opportunity to visit some amazing hunting grounds, have seen many parts of the State,  and meet some great folks.  It has been quite an adventure.

Good Luck to all in this quickly approaching hunting season.
I look forward to seeing and hearing your success stories
